ABS plastic formwork is a modular mould system moulded from virgin ABS resin, supplied as one-piece panels that are bolted together with installation handles and alignment crossbars to form walls, columns and slabs. The largest panel is 1200 x 600 mm at 9.70 kg and the range runs down to 150 x 200 mm at 0.68 kg, so wall lengths and tie positions are read off the panel grid instead of being cut on site. Panels are rated for 100 to 150 reuses, and the corner guards are replaceable, which is what keeps a worn set in service instead of sending it to scrap.

Panels are moulded from virgin ABS resin, not regrind, which gives the impact resistance, scratch resistance and dimensional stability that a panel needs when it is levered off a pour and stacked on a deck. The corner is the first part of a moulded panel to fail, so the guards are made as separate parts and can be swapped one at a time instead of condemning the whole panel.

The range runs from 1200 x 600 mm down to 150 x 200 mm, with intermediate sizes stepping through 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 and 500 mm faces, so most walls are laid out in standard pieces and few panels are cut. The moulded face carries no coating and no edge sealing to maintain, and panels are washed down with water between pours. Corners, angles and transition pieces are listed as separate items and are selected to the customer's requirement rather than improvised on site.
• Rated for 100 to 150 reuses. Both ABS panel series are rated at 100 to 150 reuses, which is where the economics of a plastic system come from: the panel cost is spread over far more pours than on a board mould, and the same set can be moved from floor to floor. At the end of the project the panels keep a recycling value rather than becoming site waste.

A set is supplied complete: panels, installation handles, alignment crossbars (reinforced back ribs), support pillars, tie rods, nuts, plastic sleeves, steel back braces, inclined supports and through-wall screws. Because one panel does one job, a crew that has never worked with a moulded system can still set a wall, column or slab section from the same kit, without the carpentry and cutting a timber mould needs. Worn or missing pieces are replaced individually, which is what keeps an ABS set working over a long job rather than being written off in the first month. The steel items do different jobs in that kit: the back brace stiffens the panel line vertically, the inclined support sets and holds the wall plumb, and the through-wall screw ties the two faces through the concrete.

ABS plastic formwork is used for walls, columns and slabs on building frames, and for shaped or non-standard elements where special pieces are moulded to the drawing.
